Karama has joined governments and leading civil society groups from across the world as members of the Global Partner Network for Feminist Foreign Policy.

The network launched today at the Generation Equality Forum in Paris with the aim to “encourage learning and adoption of a shared framework for a feminist foreign policy; serve as resources to be called upon for action and advice; and determine a plan of action for at least the next year.”

The launch event was addressed by Najla Mangoush, Foreign Minister of Libya, the first woman to serve in that role. The Minister announced Libya’s commitment to a feminist foreign policy - becoming the first African country to do so.

The concept of feminist foreign policy has been gradually been gaining currency, with Sweden the first country to launch such a policy in 2014. Since then more countries have made similar commitments - but activists have raised questions over the the reality of feminist foreign policy has lived up to the rhetoric. Have governments actually been putting women and peace-based actions in practice, or has it been simply business as usual?

Karama has joined the Global Partner Network for Feminist Foreign Policy to contribute to work ensuring that it is a meaningful practice - as well as shifting the center of gravity away from Europe and North America, ensuring it is a decolonial practice.
