Tragedies in Morocco and Libya show need for inclusive leadership - Karama tells UN
Karama’s founder and CEO raised the recent humanitarian disasters in Morocco and Libya at the United Nations today, stating that leadership in disaster response must be inclusive.
Speaking at the 2023 Midpoint Moment Generation Equality, Hibaaq explored the importance of an inclusive, accountable, and partnership-based approach to leadership and effective change.
Reflecting on challenges including the humanitarian catastrophes experienced in the earthquake in that hit Morocco on 8 September, and the devastation wrought in Libya by Storm Daniel on 10 September this year, Hibaaq told the event:
“To confront global challenges in climate change, humanitarian crises, economic inequality, and security issues, full and meaningful participation for women and young people is not just preferable but imperative. The Generation Equality and the WPS-HA Compact have conclusively demonstrated that an inclusive, accountable, partnership-based approach is not only feasible but also transformative”
The discussion marked the midpoint of Generation Equality, launched in France and Mexico in 2021. Karama is a board member of the Generation Equality’s Women, Peace and Security & Humanitarian Action Compact.
