The military coup is an attack on all Sudanese
We condemn the coup underway in Sudan.
The detention of the members of the civilian government and attempt to dissolve the transitional council is a brazen attack on all Sudanese and the values of the revolution.
We fear for the safety and security of the people of Sudan who have taken to the streets to protest this outrage. Sudanese have put themselves in danger again and again, suffering through the Khartoum Massacre, to end years of authoritarian rule and build a just and democratic society.
Women served as the leaders of the revolution, they have the most to lose from the derailing of the transitional process. The women, young people and children of Sudan are particularly vulnerable by the potential for violence.
This is a truly grim story that is sadly all too familiar. What the leaders of the coup could not control through legitimate means, they have chosen to seize by violence.
The coup must end with immediate handover to civilian government.
