Dr Hanan Ashrawi: I Decided To Stand Up To The Injustices

Our series of intergenerational dialogues with inspirational women continues with the amazing Dr Hanan Ashrawi speaking to young activists from Africa and the Middle East.

Dr Hanan Ashrawi has served in a number of roles in Palestinian public life, including election to the Palestinian Legislative Council, serving as a minister in the Palestinian Authority, and now elected to the Executive Board of the PLO. Dr Ashrawi discussed why it was so important for her to have a mandate and a constituency in public office, and how women’s political participation can be more effective. She was asked how to increase young women’s representation in decision making.

Dr Ashrawi has long been one of the most visible and persuasive advocates for the Palestinian people on the international stage, and our panel asked her how she managed to carve out a platform for herself, as well as how she found her voice.
